About the event

June Annual Meeting

We'll returning to Marion for our Annual Membership Meeting, weathering clinics, and hands on modeling.

Clinics and Hands-On Modeling - Weathering Techniques

June 13th is our annual pilgrimage to Marion Station and we are planning a great day of train watching, model railroading, and fellowship. Weathering will be main topic of the day. We’ll spend the morning watching a video by Mike Confalone on weathering a car without the use of an airbrush. Mike is a phenomenal modeler, and if you’ve subscribed to TrainMasters TV, you may have seen this video series or videos of his Allagash Railways. He’ll cover many of the materials and techniques we’ll be using in the afternoon. Following that, we have at least one weathering mini-clinic lined up.

After some train watching and a FREE lunch for all Division members, we’ll conduct our Annual Meeting. As you know, we’ve changed our monthly meeting format and the Annual Meeting will be your chance for quick updates from the various officers and committee chairs on what has happened in the last year and a vision for the year ahead. If you really don’t care that much about the business side of the Division the Marion Model Railroad Club and the 1:1 scale trains should be running.

After the Annual Meeting, our Hands On Modeling Clinic will be an opportunity to practice some of the techniques you heard about in the morning. There will be a $5 fee for the clinic but 3-4 partially used Pan Pastel sets will be raffled off at the end to all that participate. The Division will acquire most of the materials needed but each participant will need to bring 2-4 cars (pre-Dullcoated) to practice on. If you’d like to practice creating rust spots on a galvanized metal roof, bring along one silver/gray roof model (or paint a roof ahead of time). Participants should also bring three or more paint brushes if you have some (small, normal and wide (1/2-3/4")). We will be providing some, but most of the techniques involve both wet and dry materials so having spares would be helpful.

The Bring 'n Brag item will be Weathered Car or Loco. Bring along a model and tell us about the techniques used to make it look slightly used or ready for the scrapheap.

Layout tours of the Marion Model Railroad Club should be available throughout the day.

Trains, free lunch, hands on modeling, train watching, and fellowship.
